Background

Ghidorah

 

In 1964, a new enemy of Godzilla was born from the hands of Ultraman's father, Eiji Tsuburaya. It was called Ghidorah. According to Ishiro Honda, he combined the image of the Yamata no Orochi in Japanese legend and the three-headed dragon in the Soviet fantasy movie King Dragon (from Zemy in Russian mythology), aiming to create an enemy that is not weaker than Godzilla.

Deathwing

Deathwing the Destroyer, formerly known as Neltharion the Earth-Warder, is one of the five Aspects and the leader of the Black Dragonflight. Long ago, Neltharion was given the power to rule over the land and the depths of Azeroth by the Pantheon. However, driven by the Old Gods, he opposed the other Aspects during the War of the Ancients, and eventually gave up the title of Earth-Ward to become the Death-Ward. He became one of the most terrible monsters in the known world, and his name became a whisper of fear and contempt between mortals and dragons. He is perhaps the most powerful servant of the Old Gods.

 

This black Aspect participated in the Second War, incarnating as the human lord Daval Prestor, trying to destroy the Alliance from within. Prestor is said to be a human, tall and slender, with black hair and a clean-shaven face like a hawk, and is the subject of gossip among the ladies of King Terenas' court. Deathwing also managed to turn his greatest enemy, Alexstrasza, into a slave of the Horde, with whom he later allied himself. After a series of setbacks and eventual defeat at the hands of the other Aspects, Deathwing retreated to the Elemental Plane of Deepholm to recuperate. Deep beneath the earth, deep beneath Grim Batol, he observed his former mate Sinthara's experiments on the Twilight Dragonflight, and later continued his late spouse's work.

 

Although many believed Deathwing to be dead, he returned in spectacular fashion after the fall of the Lich King. He entered Azeroth through Deepholm and destroyed the World Pillar, causing the Elemental Planes to begin collapsing onto Azeroth. This cataclysm reshaped the entire world of Azeroth and brought widespread destruction. As the world was crumbling, he emerged and brought the Fire to various regions of Azeroth. His ultimate goal was to bring about the Hour of Twilight - freeing the Old Gods and ending all life on Earth.
